Ep.41 Simphiwe Fuwe Molefe (Market Photo Workshop)

Simphiwe Fuwe Molefe, born in 1990 in KwaZulu-Natal, discovered his passion for photography in 2018 and established his business, Function Unique Pictures. His documentary projects explore identity, social issues, heritage, and everyday life in his community. He was introduced to documentary photography by the organisation Of Soul and Joy and studied photography at the Market Photo Workshop. Simphiwe has won the Tierney Fellowship in 2023/24 and been featured in the Global Citizen Emerging Creatives Programme. In 2024, he exhibited his project "Ungowakwethu wena" at the FNB Art Fair Jozi and was featured in a book celebrating Of Soul and Joy's tenth anniversary. In 2021, he won the overall grand prize in the Standard Bank's Photographs in Our Mother Tongue #PhotosReimagined Competition. Simphiwe also created the YouTube channel Disk'Cast, sharing content about kasi diski or street football skills, to expose and promote talent in townships.
